The PoLuMe project, with the construction of a new motorway tunnel to

ring road around the town of Bissone, the conversion of the motorway into a

cantonal road and the transformation of the existing cantonal road in a space for functions of local interest, provide an opportunity for a village strongly marked by

infrastructure, to once again plan its future and define its objectives.

 

A unique opportunity, with strong social and landscape value, which is the subject of

study of the present project.

 

Our team's approach is summarised by the title ‘Between land and water’, which

conceptually symbolises a variable and changing boundary. The definition and

interpretation of this limit is the basis of the design approach.

A limit that is intrinsic in the genesis of Bissone and that allows us to imagine

future visions of a possible city.

But the reflection on the limit goes further, referring also to other physical limits, between

urban fabric, between settlements and infrastructures, between nature and artifice; coming to relate to metaphysical limits, such as that between residents and visitors and between the private and public spheres.
