This project is based on a reflection on the utopian Firminy Vert project created by Le Corbusier at the late 1960s: the utopia that heavy industry, the use of coal and the growth of infrastructure can in themselves guarantee progress, spatial quality and social inclusion, all without environmental damage. Our work seeks to understand how to achieve these goals from the perspective and with the current sensitivity of the new generations.

 

Once one of the largest coal areas in France, the valley now presents the signs of a past that has not been able to plan a new future.

 

The project proposes a new urban strategy between La Ricamarie and Firminy. By moving and integrating the railway line with the motorway, it is possible to transform the old railway line into a slow mobility path that allows the transformation and regeneration of significative urban areas of the valley. An intervention based on environmental enhancement, new public space space attribution, urban regeneration and mobility.
